Finally, after a year and half of planning, James Ishmael Ford, Zen Master, Minister of the First Unitarian Society in Newton, Mass. and Founder of the Unitarian Buddhist Fellowship is coming to Toronto!

Ford will be conducting a public workshop entitled "The Three Jewels" on Saturday, April 27, 10am-3:00pm, at the First Unitarian Congregation of Toronto located at 175 St. Clair Avenue West in Toronto (just West of Avenue Road).

Cost: $25, including a vegetarian lunch.  Please confirm attendance with Timothy Law at timothylaw@look.ca or 416-485-8976.

James I. Ford has been serving Unitarian Universalist congregations for nearly ten years.  Prior to his call to the First Unitarian Society in Newton, Mass., James served Unitarian Universalist congregations in Wisconsin and Arizona. James is both a social justice activist and one of the leaders of the denomination's resurgent engagement with spirituality.

He has studied Buddhist meditation for more than thirty years and has been authorized as a spiritual director within two Zen lineages.

As a speaker and writer, James emphasizes the necessity of joining the interior and the exterior - spirituality and social engagement.  He sees his ministry as focused on the ways of reconciliation which he sees as "a joyful engagement with the world".

James has contributed chapters to several books and is the author of This Very Moment: A Brief Introduction to Buddhism, Zen for Unitarian Universalists and Faith of a UU Buddhist.

The Buddhist Practice Group of Toronto First Unitarian Congregation will be welcoming Rev. Ford to Toronto for the first time.  He will be talking at the Congregation's Sunday morning services on April 28 (10:00am and 11:30am, open to the public) in addition to leading the Saturday workshop.
