ICUU provides a communication network for Unitarian and
Universalist organizations around the globe. It aims to foster
the growth of the Unitarian and Universalist cause worldwide
through a range of activities that encourage grass-roots
participation.
This worldwide association was formed in 1996. ICUU President is
Rev. Gordon Oliver, Minister of the Cape Town Unitarian Church
in South Africa. CUC connections to the ICUU are strong. John
Slattery of Beacon Unitarian Church in Coquitlam BC was ICUU
Treasurer for two terms and now serves as Vice-President.
ICUU includes member
groups from: Australia and New Zealand, Canada, Czech Republic,
Denmark, European UUs, Finland, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary,
India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Romania, Russia,
South Africa, Sri Lanka, and United States. The ICUU website
http://www.icuu.net provides links to any member groups who host websites.
The Global Chalice is
published twice annually and is distributed through the CUC
mailings to congregations. Individuals who want to get on the
mailing list should contact the ICUU administrator at icuu@iol.cz
ICUU holds a biennial
conference that is now open to individual Unitarians and
Universalists. The Council met in Montreal in 2001, in
Prague in 2003 and Montserrat (near Barcelona), Spain in
2005. CUC Delegates are president Rev. Brian Kiely and
executive director, Mary Bennett.
Many Canadians
including former CUC executive director, Ellen Campbell
and former President of the board, John Slattery, were
active in founding the organization and remain involved.
