Growing Vital Religious Communities In Canada

Bio of Linda Thomson

Linda is pleased to be serving the Canadian Unitarian Council as the Director of Regional Services – East.

A Unitarian since 1983, Linda has a profound love and appreciation for our faith and its potential.  “I have seen first hand, I have experienced the way that our faith can provide transforming experiences.  We have much to offer our larger communities.   To grow our congregations and our faith, so that others who would join us, may, is a priority of mine.”  Linda has served the Hamilton Unitarian Congregation in many capacities, as has her husband Gary, and has first hand familiarity with the life of lay-leaders.

Her past work includes serving as Canadian Consultant to the Canadian congregations of the St. Lawrence District of the UUA, and as Supervisor of Aquatics for the City of Burlington, Ontario, Parks and Recreation Department.  Additionally, Linda has been an Organizational Development Consultant and a Part-time Instructor at Mohawk College in Hamilton.  Linda has served on the Provincial Board of the Life Saving Society of Canada, and has chaired and served on many committees of that society.

Linda’s past-times include gardening, canoeing and downhill skiing.   Being outside, and seeing the wonderful diversity that nature offers is, for Linda, a spiritual experience, one that helps ground her faith.  Supporting change and growth and increased diversity in congregations is one of her current passions.  “My work, church and recreational life have come together with this appointment. Coaching, growing, mindfulness, diversity and change are threads that run through my life.”
