Consultation Process Recommendations
The Consultation on Ministry To
and With Youth is a new UUA two-year process to review and
re-vision for their association’s overall youth ministry.
A copy of the Consultation
brochure is included in the October 2005 mailing for your
information.
Our CUC engagement in processes
leading up to UUA Consultation is shown in the timeline, below.
Timeline:
2003 January
YRUU Long Range Planning meetings, Boston. Sylvia Bass West as
DLL and Asha Philar (youth) are participants. Many
recommendations come from these meetings, most requiring
significant additional funds for youth ministry from UUA.
2003 August
UUA YRUU Youth Council met with UUA President Rev. Bill Sinkford
(who attended council for an afternoon) to hear UUA youth
ministry vision, and consider and offer input on an evaluation
process around UUA youth ministry.
2004 August
UUA President Bill Sinkford attends Youth Council for 2 days,
again to further dialogue around the process and resolution, now
being termed Common Ground III, reflecting the UUA’s overall
youth ministry, including YRUU. The YRUU Youth Council
eventually found itself at blocked consensus on this resolution
and the process was put on hold.
2004
Fall/Winter UUA
Board directs a new process for youth ministry
evaluation/re-visioning, and instructed Bill Sinkford to call
for a meeting of select stakeholders as a first step.
2005 February
Phillip Pike from CUC YAG attends stakeholders meetings in
Boston A group from these meetings prepares a process document.
2005 May
UUA Youth Office Program Director Jesse Jaeger attends CUC Board
meeting to offer15 minute presentation, as update/information
and asks us (CUC Board) to begin dialogue around how we see CUC
engagement with the unfolding UUA Youth ministry consultation
process.
2005 June
UUA General Assembly. Consultation process endorsed by UUA
-process publicly announced and information workshops available
at GA. Sylvia is formally asked by co-convenors to serve on UUA
Consultation Taskforce. Sylvia declines invitation, with regret,
due to many portfolio demands.
2005 July
YRUU Youth Council asks for more youth representation on
Taskforce including one Canadian
2005 August
Tom Rylett from South Peel congregation recommended to serve as
Canadian Youth representative. Tom accepts and will serve on UUA
Taskforce.
2005 September
CUC Board makes formal motion to engage in UUA Consultation
processes.
According to Beth Dana, Youth
Ministry Associate with UUA, a survey will go out to all UUA
congregations/stakeholders. Following that a member of the UUA
taskforce will be attending and leading a workshop at every
district meeting the 2006 church year. A formal survey and
workshop at each of our CUC regional fall gatherings for fall
2006 will likely be part of the plan. Tom Rylett will be able to
keep us informed as decisions are made.
